Memory's Recall

This spell is a part of the Currents of Time spell chain and is found in the Currents of Time rune stone.

A praeteriamancer is first and foremost a scholar of history. There is little wonder why most archeologists end up being born under the runic element of time, and a praeteriamancer is an archeologist and genealogist further defined. What sets the praeteriamancer apart is that they do not study the past by studying old relics and ancient ruins - though they do enjoy doing that as well. They study by sitting in such places in quiet meditation with Memory. The praeteriamancer is the avatar of Memory, the medium through which the past speaks. To know the past and how to utilize it is the power of the praeteriamancer. 

One spell that the praeteriamancer has which illustrates this most effectively is Memory's Recall. Memory's Recall isn't a simple manipulation that recalls a memory. It is far more. Through Memory's Recall, the praeteriamancer is calling forth the holder of past knowledge, Memory itself, and seeing through Memory as if Memory were their very eyes. Hearing through Memory as if Memory were their ears. Through Memory, the praeteriamancer is recalling the memory of the area - be it room, battlefield, or rolling plains, or of the person before them as if the praeteriamancer were there experiencing it themselves. They can see everything Memory knows, experience every thing Memory experienced, hear everything Memory heard. No knowledge of the past is beyond their grasp. No mental effect placed upon the praeteriamancer can lock Memory away. If the praeteriamancer can successfully cast the spell, Memory becomes them. 

For an area the praeteriamancer simply needs to decide how far back they wish to look, and that is what they will see. The area is it was at that time forms around them. They can smell every smell, see every person and creature that was there. Experience every event, hear every sound. During the hour that they are looking through Memory, the praeteriamancer can make checks to seek out what isn't plainly evident, find clues that were once buried to time but are now able to be found. All such checks are made Normal or Easy, empowered by Memory itself. 

For a person the praeteriamancer can watch their life in reverse from the very moment in the present all the way to their birth should they desire to look that far back. They will recall through Memory everyone the target visited, every word said, every action taken. This will expose who the target truly is, as well as any enhancements or curses upon the target. This will give them insight to the target's power and knowledge as well as the target's weaknesses. It is ultimately up to the GM to determine what that does for the praeteriamancer, but it should be significant indeed. 

Once the spell ends Memory returns within the praeteriamancer's runic soul, waiting, watching, and recording.
