× The Kingdom of Asteria takes up the largest of the sky lands in the eastern part of Chalcedonia. The oldest kingdom of the Sixth Era, its land was once the Kingdom of Triskel in the Second Area and comprises of the Auster Lands, the Chalcedon, and the Chalcedonian Jungle. Asteria is the most powerful of the three kingdoms though lately it relys more and more on trade for metals. It is also the most diverse of the kindgoms.

The capital of Asteria is Aureas, a city of the Second Era completely rebuilt and restored by Taal Zodo as his gift to his nephew Ian Mercleis. The current king, and only king in its long history, is none other than Ian Mercleis. Asteria has been regarded as the Holy Kingdom due to its king's close relationship to the divine Taal Zodo.

Most people would have likely understood what Ruby meant when she said that they couldn't leave right now, meaning they should wait until they are fully prepared to leave. Poppy, however, is not most people. While not stupid, she is very literal. Poppy, after all, didn't have the experience of dealing with others, and Chacledonian was still quite new to the namarian youth. So when Ruby explained that they shouldn't leave right now, she of course agreed. "Pretty girl right!" Poppy exclaimed jubilantly, "can't leave when no sun! Gotta wait until first star! Too dangerous right now!"

The youth grins ear from ear beaming with joy that, at least to her, someone else understood the dangers of traveling at night. Planning, provisions, money... Poppy had no concept of those things. What she did understand though was that when the suns set, the monsters woke. The namarian had done well enough to learn not to jump at her own shadow! She just wasn't the warrior like the men of her tribe.

When Ruby asked Poppy about how far they would need to travel, she thought hard, "Uh... well Poppy get there fast! Not take more than um, six shadow changes!" Which would of course equate to roughly six hours on a sundial. She looks over at Gossford, "Might be slower though, if cat can't run like a.... like a cat! Maybe it take all sunlight." She smiles, "But home just in the trees, midway in!"

Gossford listens to both Ruby and Poppy and they were right of course, it would take careful planning, preparation and of course figuring out food provisions and travel formalities .

“Of course, we can’t just up and leave at a whim.  According to what Poppy is saying it could take up to a day or so to make the journey.  I would definitely plan to bring at least two days worth of food and water provisions to carry us through.  I’ve got everything we need.”

Clara wags her tail and points her snout to her harnesses.  She then nods to everyone.  She was no stranger to pulling a pony sized cart which would help carry provisions and passengers if need be.  Clara could also take riders on her back and she gestures this by pointing to her back with her snout.  Gossford nods.

” I think Clara has solved our traveling dilemma.  I have a small pony cart out back.  It has enough capacity to carry me and our provisions.  You two can ride on Clara’s back.  She may not walk on all fours but she’s got plenty of stamina on her three good limbs. Her strength matches that of a donkey.  And I’ve ridden on her, she has a smooth gait.”

Gossford now takes out a piece of paper and a pen.  Being as reasonably aware as he was, he wanted to be sure they all had everything they needed for their journey.

“ Alright then, let’s all mention things we will need and write them
down.  That way we wont go unprepared.”

Ruby frowned ever so slightly as she realized that where ever it was that they were going, wasn't really all that far away. It was a disappointment really. Ruby had thought that they'd be traveling further than just a day's ride away. Granted, it would still be an adventure, as Ruby had never been outside of the city, but only to it's edges. She had read stories of what was out there, and strange creatures like Poppy were new to her, except for what she had read of them. Maybe it could still be an adventure, but it felt like it'd be a short one. Perhaps that was for the best. The longer the trip, the more they'd have to take and the more plans she'd have to make. Not that she minded making plans. Making plans was something Ruby excelled at.

To Gossford she said, "I don't have any of my things with me. No clothes save what I'm wearing, no food, no money. I'll have to run home and get what I need before we can leave. Unless of course we can buy whatever I might need along the way and I could pay you back when we return. But I hadn't thought any of this might happen and was only intent on bringing your books back to you, so....yeah." She laughed softly and shook her head. "This is what comes from not making plans," she said.

Ruby was right.  In order to be prepared, everyone needed their supplies to travel reasonably well.

“ Of course my dear, I think we better slow down and be sure we plan this carefully and give everyone a chance to prepare properly.  I vote we give everyone a few days time perhaps a weeks time to fully prepare for such a journey.  Then we meet back here and make a day and time to depart so this way, everyone is well equipped for travel. “

As the tea kettle whistles, Gossford takes the kettle off the fire and adds the tea leaves into the pot.  He was sure to use a tea that would not keep everyone awake.  The room smells of sweet peppermint and chamomile as he brews a nighttime cup of tea.  He then pours the tea for everyone in three simple mugs.

“ Here you are, it’s a special blend of tea to relax the mind and promote a restful nights sleep.”

Ruby thought on Gossford's words and then shook her head. "A week is too long. I don't know if I'm reading things right, but it seems to me as if our little friend here wants to get going and back to her people as soon as possible. I could be wrong on that account, but at most I'd say a day is all we need."

Ruby accepted the cup of tea with a bow of thanks and took a sip, savoring the flavor. She hadn't planned on spending the night at Gossford's and she should see about getting word that she'd be here to her parents, however they knew this was a place she frequented and so shouldn't worry about her. Ruby knew how to take care of herself. She may not be a fighter, but she could run like the wind, especially when wearing good sturdy boots like she was now. Claiming one of the cozy chairs near the fire, Ruby petted Claire briefly on her way to it, then settled in and making herself at home, kicked off her boots. She was certain Gossford wouldn't care. He often told her to make herself at home and now didn't seem like any different of a time. Taking another sip of tea, Ruby regarded the others over the rim of the cup.

"Poppy," Ruby began. "Can you wait a day for us to prepare and we will leave the day after tomorrow? I know you said it isn't far, but we really ought to be prepared for anything. None of us are fighters and I don't know what we might encounter on the way to where you want to take us." Ruby wasn't sure if the young thing would understand what she was asking and trying to explain. The girl seemed to take things quite litterally, or so it seemed. Of course, Ruby had been known to be wrong from time to time and this could very well be one of those times.

Poppy blinks her large green eyes when Ruby was talking about 'their little friend', "Is girl talking bout Poppy?" She leans in like a child wanting to absorb everything that the other two were saying. Finally Poppy nods largely and slowly, "Yes, Poppy wanna go home as soon as can. But Poppy knows, pretty girl and cat need to be ready. Might be harder for them than for Poppy."

Poppy smiles, but her smile is uncertain as she tries to comprehend everything Ruby is saying to her. "So pretty girl say to wait until suns wake up and go to bed again and then wake up again before we go?" Poppy sighs, "Poppy guesses, not know how long it take to make ready and  why need to become fighter. Poppy ready anytime! But, Poppy can wait."

Gossford had never been on an adventure so he really wasn’t sure as to how long it would take to prepare so he simply nods along with Ruby and Poppy and trusts in their judgment.

”Ahh alright, I’m not adept at making journeys like the one we are about to take.  I fully have trust in both of you that we will do the right thing and do things properly.  But do allow me to bring the majority of the supplies, to contribute to our adventure.  And  would it be alright if I chronicle our travels and write a story about our adventures?  Perhaps someone may take great interest in our escapades.”

Clara wags her tail as Ruby pets her, and throws in a friendly lick to Ruby’s face as she stretches her long neck to do so.  She also prances up to Poppy and gives her a friendly rub against her shoulder.  She could hardly wait to journey with both of them.  Gossford chuckles.

” Well that  settles it, if she has full trust in you then so do I.  And  after we return, no  matter what happens, we are all family and my home is your home too.  I hope to see you both when holidays come around.”

Ruby sipped at her tea as she listened to Gossford. The guy could go on for hours if allowed to, but that was one thing young Ruby liked about him, mainly because he taught her so much. When Poppy mentioned not being able to understand why they needed to become fighters, Ruby couldn't help but chuckle. The girl really did take things quite literally and didn't seem to understand. Maybe Ruby should try and explain it to her some.

After another careful sip of tea, Ruby looked at Poppy with a kind and patient expression on her face. "Poppy," she said to get the girl's attention. When she had it she went on to say, "We don't need to become fighters. I said that we are not fighters. Not being fighters makes us more vulnerable to attacks from others and so we need to be prepared in case that happens. That is why we are asking you to wait a day," Ruby said patiently. "If we properly prepare for the journey, short though it may be, we'll be more likely to make it without any troubles. Do you understand?" Ruby looked to Gossford to see if he approved of her simplified explanation to Poppy. She hoped that she hadn't confused the girl more, but she had tried. She wasn't as good at explaining things to people younger than her. That was more Gossford's territory.
