× The Kingdom of Asteria takes up the largest of the sky lands in the eastern part of Chalcedonia. The oldest kingdom of the Sixth Era, its land was once the Kingdom of Triskel in the Second Area and comprises of the Auster Lands, the Chalcedon, and the Chalcedonian Jungle. Asteria is the most powerful of the three kingdoms though lately it relys more and more on trade for metals. It is also the most diverse of the kindgoms.

The capital of Asteria is Aureas, a city of the Second Era completely rebuilt and restored by Taal Zodo as his gift to his nephew Ian Mercleis. The current king, and only king in its long history, is none other than Ian Mercleis. Asteria has been regarded as the Holy Kingdom due to its king's close relationship to the divine Taal Zodo.

Elwryn took a deep, calming breath and one last look in the mirror before taking Fenril's hand and allowing him to escort her to the door where the chancellor was waiting. It was a little nerve wracking meeting the chancellor. She had always admired him and his work, and now after all of this time, she was getting to talk to him, have lunch with him, and so much more. It was exciting, but she did her best to keep her face calm with a pleasant smile on it.

As he bowed, Elwryn noticed his goldish yellow tresses and his eyes. He was quite the striking man, a rune elf like her with features that she couldn't help but be attracted to. She found her heart fluttering a bit like it did when she had kissed Fenril earlier that morning. As Chancellor Vic straightened from his bow, Elwyrn bowed as well, formally but also only deep enough to be seen as friendly too.

"Chancellor Mignogna, it is an honor to see you again. I am looking forward to our lunch and getting to know you and your work more completely," Elwryn said as she slipped her small hand into his.

As the two of them started out, Elwryn on his arm, her own boots clicking on the marbled floor she wondered what sort of lunch was prepared for them. She hadn't been on a picnic in a long time and so this would be a treat for her. And even more so of a treat to be able to do this with Vic. She'd have to write to her mother and tell her all about it when she had the time.

Vic's pride as he escorted the Lady thru the Keep was evident. Fenril paced behind with one of the Vic's own guard. Because of her rank, Vic's guard, Altair, deferred and allowed the Lady's guard the right side position.

Ignoring the men, Vic smiled as they moved down the hall. "I am glad you chose to accept my invitation. I was fearful I had been too forward this morning and you weren't ready for visitors. As to knowing my work, it's an open tome for you, Lady Elwryn. But I admit I am also interested in learning about you. Your own accomplishments, I admit, have earned you a pedestal in my opinion. But fear not, I would never allow you to fall from it," he patted the hand she had laid on his arm in warm reassurance.

As Vic turned the final corner he swept his hand out as the hall opened to an open arched walkway bordering a large walled garden. It was larger than her own garden at home. Several hundred people could occupy it and never know everyone there. "I hope something light is acceptable. I didn't want to make you too full and sleepy this afternoon. But I figured because of docking, breakfast may have been some time ago."

The moved deep enough into the gardens to have full privacy on all sides. In the center was a small fountain under an arched gazebo that was bordered in white and red roses. "Your lunch, M'Lady." He swept a hand to the small white wrought iron table with two chairs. Set for then with lace and crystal, there was a small rolling cart beside it with several covered and tiered trays.

He moved away from her a couple steps to pull out a chair for her.

"That is kind of you to say," Elwryn answered in response to his comment about her having earned a pedestal. "I will admit though that many of the treaties and the like that I have been a part of, could not have happened were it not for both sides wanting peace. There is only so much one person can do in such situations as those. Surely its been similar for you, though you likely have the backing of the King to help you."

As they reached the specific garden where they would be having lunch, Elwryn couldn't help but gasp in surprise. It was positively enormous and grander than any she had ever had the pleasure of seeing. "It is so beautiful here!" she exclaimed as she walked slowly around her fingers caressing the delicate petals of the roses. Then she saw the table with the linen and the fine crystal and her eyes widened. This was so extravagent! Would dinner be the same or even more elaborate yet?

When Vic held the chair out for her, she sat and the smile that was already on her faced turned to Vic in thanks. This was almost too much, but she was enjoying it, and she was even more so looking forward to hearing Vic talk about his work.

Vic laughed softly. "The backing of the King means nothing in true negotiating arenas, M'lady. Backing merely means he covers the expenses and the guards. All negotiations, treaties or otherwise, are always a combination of give and take of two or more sides." As they entered the garden, her reaction made his chest swell. He knew from his asking that she loved flowers. It was good to know the information was correct.

He followed behind her a couple steps as she moved thru it. A fairy princess is what came to mind when she touched the flowers. A princess moving amongst the blooms, waking them up to their full potential. When she paused and grinned brighter at the setting, his move behind her to help her sit was a pleasant one.

"I am glad you like the choice. I know you liked flowers, but I feared you would think this too literal or silly." He moved to the cart and uncovered the trays. Strips of light meats like chicken and ham were twisted with various cheeses. There were several bite size pieces of a couple different breads on a tray making a charming pattern with their different textures and colors. The third tray held bite sizes pieces of fresh fruits and small things like grapes and strawberries. The beautiful cloth covering the tiered tray revealed small chocolates and bite sized cakes delicately decorated with versions of the flowers she saw around her.

He sat down, the cart within easy reach of them both, and pointed to the two carafes on the table. "One holds a wonderful fruit juice the cook here makes special, the other is a nice cold brewed tea. I thought alcohol may be a bit much this early in the day." He watched her take it all in, glad he could impress her as she did him.

Elwryn couldn't help it, the smile that split her face was so big that it was making her cheeks not only flush but hurt. Never before had she seen such lavishness or been treated so wonderfully. It was even kind of nice, though odd at the same time, that the Chancellor's gaze did not linger on her breasts or her backside or even her legs. He looked at her and saw all of her rather than just tasty pieces and for some reason, that made her exceedingly happy. Well, that did and everything else.

Her stomach gave the tiniest of rumbles when he unveiled the delicacies before them. She realized then that all she had eaten that day was about half of a pear. Or had she eaten the whole pear? Either way she knew she was famished, but she held herself back, not wanting to take without being offered, and definitely not wanting to seem greedy or glutoness. The candies and chocolates on the tiered tray looked positively divine and she felt her mouth water.

"Chancellor! This is too much! Do you do this for all foreign dignitaries that come through?" She arched a brow, half teasing him, but truly impressed by what he was offering her. Elwryn waved her hand, a gesture of encompassing everything then motioned him to sit. "Please sit Chancellor. Let us be equals and enjoy this lovely lunch you've had prepared."

When he did sit she asked, "Shall I pour? Which would you prefer, the tea or the punch?"

Vic laughed. It was a rich, warm, heartfelt laugh. "No, Lady Elwryn. I don't do this for every dignitary. But not every dignitary that has met me has been as bright or lovely as you, nor been the same cloth we have been snipped from." He moved to sit down at her insistence.

Seeing her eye the tiers and trays, he moved to lift the small plate before her and turned to place three or four of the chocolates and treats on her plate. "Juice, please..." When he set it before her, he winked. "One of the great pleasures of people of our station. We can have our dessert first, should be so desire." He winked and did the same with his own plate after handing his goblet to her.

He watched her movements with the eye of a practiced watcher. The fact he had flustered her made him swell with pride. When they were settled, he took a bite of one of the petite fours and then sat back and watched her enjoy herself like a child on holiday with permission to skip her vegetables. His smile for her was soft and warm.

Elwryn poured some punch for the chancellor and some tea for herself, not wanting too much sweet right away what with what Vic put before her. She found herself blushing slightly when he complimented her on her looks. And once again she found herself thinking how nice it was that the chancellor wasn't staring at her breasts or some other part of her. Instead he was looking at her eyes, at her as a whole person and not just parts to be put on display. It made her feel rather warm inside. Biting the end off a chocolate covered strawberry she returned his smile and thought about his rich, warm laugh and about him. Was he as smart as he was charming? His track record in the political arena said he was. Would he see her as equally as smart as he was? She hoped so. She wanted to be his equal in things and learn from him. Perhaps they could even work together to see this through to the end and come up with something that would please all parties.

"So, Chancellor Mignogna," she said after she finished the strawberry, "Was it your work that brought you here or were you born in these parts? I admit, I know a little about your work, but even less about you yourself. As for me, I was born and raised in Elusia. Tell me more about you." She took a sip of her tea and added, "If you don't mind that is."

The Chancellor watched pour the drinks and nodded in thanks as she passed him the juice. "Thank you, Elwryn."

As she started asking about him, Vic laughed. "Easy, Lady... we have a long time to get to know one another. I will start at the beginning, but only if you will share the same in return." He smiled at her and reached to lightly pat her hand. It wasn't condescending, but reassuring. "Yes, I was born here. My father had been Chancellor before he passed away and it seemed right that since he raised me in his shadow, that I should step in when he vacated. The King asked it of me, as well. So who am I to refuse my King?"

He took a bite of some cold meat he had placed on his plate and then a sip of juice before continuing. "I have always had a penchant to seeking the core at the base of disagreements. Of seeing things in a way that those too close to the subject sometimes fail to see." His hand had remained near hers, the tips of his fingers touching the tip of hers. "When people get too passionate about something, emotions flare. Whether it's anger, disappointment, love or even indifference, there is a tunnel vision that forms. They are unable to see or even admit that there are other possibilities."

He laughed softly and sat back. "Forgive me, I tend to lecture when I talk. Too many years of explaining things, I supposed." He picked his fork up but merely rolled it between his fingers. "So, now your turn. You mentioned you were born in Elusia. But tell me how it is someone as smart as you became the problem solver for others." The fact he didn't start listing her beauty points amongst her assets would show just how highly he thought of her. Most usually asked how someone with her beauty got to where she was at?
