Site looks interesting, so even though there's only one person here right now I thought I might as well join. I have a decent idea of what kind of character I want to make (forest-dwelling goblin ranger- though I also think a Talusian would be interesting), but I'll probably take some time thinking of the details while waiting for more players to join.

Hi! Welcome! Yeah, it is just us right now. But I have hope! I'll continue to post and stuff, and look to advertise more and hopefully we will get more people. In the mean time, please, feel free to discuss your ideas and make a character or three. I'll happily post with you!

Okay, so thoughts so far on my goblin character idea. I'd already used Hero Forge to make an appearance for her, though after I checked the goblin page on here again and noticed that they usually don't have hair in this setting, I tried seeing what she looks like without the hair. Either one would work, though maybe the bald version could use some tattoos or face paint or something to make the head more interesting in the absence of hair. I might also adjust her outfit to be a bit less stone-age looking depending on how the culture turns out.

I figure earth/nature would make the most sense for elements.

As for background/personality stuff I haven't nailed down much yet, though I have been thinking, particularly about what sort of clan she is from. Might post more thoughts about this tomorrow, since I need to get to bed.

(Side note: The goblin page still has Ishmal's backstory even though the currently played version of him is not related to goblins.)

Okay, so... goblins seem to be a pretty diverse group overall, but according to their page they tend to take a lot of their cultural cues from whatever the nearest civilization is. For a forest-dwelling clan that would probably be the Yerk elves (or at least what they've heard about them), fae, and maybe the Namara. Since the goblin page says they often take up residence in ruins they might also try to recreate some elements of the civilization that left the ruins behind. With all this in mind, they probably have some form of nature reverence going on.

While the goblin page states that female goblins generally live for mating, I would assume there are plenty of exceptions to this, and Grumzi will definitely be one of them. (She probably still does have some children but leaves the care of them to others.) I think even before she decided to take up adventuring she might have been taught some combat skills under the assumption she'd use them to defend her village while the men were hunting or something. I get the impression that these gender roles are more a result of longstanding traditions rather than anything strenuously enforced so the reaction of other goblins is probably more "huh, that's different" than "don't do that or we'll punish you".

And I think that's pretty much all I have for now.

You would be right, considering the goblin's penchant to follow more closely the norms of society they are closest too - all in an effort to fit in. The page write up is the typical situation, not the "every goblin society behaves this way" situation. They are adapters. If the society they are shadowing is matriarchal, then so will they be. It is simply that for the most part goblin females were the care takers while goblin males were the ones going out to hunt, mine, what ever was needed - because that is (1) what helped them survive and (2) what they see most from other societies. A goblin shadowing dark elves will be the opposite here.

That said, there is also nothing stopping a female goblin from any goblin society from living outside of the norm. As stated before, they are adapters, survivors. Given any reason, the goblin female would venture forth. That could be a great background hook for you @Kayube. Give your goblin a reason to both have hair and to leave outside and adventure.

So you are aware, I work Sunday - Thursdays, some weeks busier than others. So sorry for the late reply - this was a busy week lol. I completed some maps Friday.
