With tensions rising, the call had come to craft new weapons that have even more power and potential. Guns however are not entirely new - they are rediscovered. Ever since Joachim Farun found an old war musket in one of the old city ruins in Chaladonia the race was on to determine how they work and how to reproduce them. Today's guns are the result of that work, and as the technology and understanding of guns improves more crafting options may become available to the talented artificer.

How to Craft Guns

You craft guns simply by following this simple process: barrel + stock + firing mechanism, as well as ammunition (sold separately). That is really all there is to making a simple gun.

How Guns Work

Guns are not your typical sword or even your bow and arrow. They are rediscovered weaponry that relies on black powder to fire out a projectile at high speeds. The damage from a gun comes not from the wielder, but from the gun and the bullet itself, and more importantly, the black powder. Guns are incredibly powerful weapons, but require more time and attention to use correctly.

  • Firing takes the Attack action and the Support action. No Offensive Power, and the Critical trait doesn’t apply.
  • Before firing, the shooter makes a Focus check. The difficulty comes from the lock and the range.
    • Pass: the shot fires, and the target defends normally.
    • Fail: the shot goes wide, and the powder and ball are spent.
    • Natural 1: misfire. Clearing the gun costs a Defense action.
    • Natural 20: a gun critical, the Gunner profession improves upon this.
  • Reloading takes the Defense action. Until the shooter’s next turn, every attack against them becomes a React check instead of a normal defense. The difficulty of the React check depends on the speed of the attack. A normal attack is an Easy React Check while a fast attack is a Normal React Check. The Evade Modifier acts as either a penalty or a bonus to the React Check.
  • No minimum distance. Guns work point-blank, unlike bows. However a long barrel cannot share the same space as the target to shoot the target.
  • Every shot burns black powder, using the existing Black Powder item (0.30 per use).

Gun Design

The following are the basic designs of the guns you can craft. The attack of the gun comes not from the material of the gun's barrel, but from the design of the gun. That is what determines how the gun is used and how much black powder power is utilized with the gun's shot. The secondary damage comes from the bullet. The material of the gun's barrel can pass on its attack properties to the gun design, but not its attack power. The barrel weight is the metal’s weight. The material’s weight multiplier applies to it, and the barrel is charged at the metal’s per-pound price.

Gun Barrel Materials

These are the materials that you can use in your gun design for your gun barrel. The attack of the gun comes not from the material of the gun's barrel, but from the design of the gun. The material of the gun's barrel can pass on its attack properties to the gun design, but not its attack power. The barrel weight is the metal’s weight. The material’s weight multiplier applies to it, and the barrel is charged at the metal’s per-pound price. Material's Evade Modifier and Space Taken values also do not apply to gun design values.

Locks

Locks are the method at which the black powder is ignited and therefore the gun is shot. The lock determines the difficulty of Focus check and any chances of misfiring.

Stock Design

The Stock Design shows the stock of the gun. It determines the hold of the gun and if the gun is capable of stock bashing. With a stock bash, you get the material + designs Bash attack value and any effects. These attack values and effects do not carry over to the gun's attack.

Stock Material

This is the material you can use to make your gun stock. The material attack values and material effects are only used during stock bash attacks.

Enhancements

These are enhancements that can be applied to your gun's design.

Ammunition

Ammunition is what your gun fires. Be it ball or shell, it is what ultimately deals the damage to your target. Like arrows, gun ammunition (gun ammo) has its own attack value that is separate from the gun. When fired, the gun's attack value is added to the gun ammo's attack value to get the total attack value of the attack. The material of the ammo determines its attack value and any material derived bonuses or effects. If you are using the same material for both ammo and barrel, the effects do not stack. The better strategy is to use different materials for each. You can use any material except cloth to make ammunition for guns.
