Spears are typically any weapon type that comes to or bears a sharp point. Unlike swords which may come to a sharp point but have wider blades made for slicing, piercing weapons have no sharp edges and only have sharp points made for piercing. Spears includes spears, tridents, lances, halberds, and pole arms.
