The crafter is one who specializes in crafting and repairing.

You excel at making and repairing things.  You can easily tell what something is made of and easily deal with traps. You aren't a warrior but you aren't completely clumsy in a fight either. You would leave the talking and spell casting to others though.

1) Starting Bonuses and Penalties

You already know that playing as a crafter grants you a 100 shillings per week salary and 50 skill points during character creation. However these are not the only benefits a crafter receives.

  • A crafter also starts out with Item Combination and Material Identify, all at level 1.
  • Since they know all about armor, crafters do double damage to a target's DR%.
  • Crafters are perhaps the only profession without any penalties.

2) Effects on Weapon Usage

Crafters are not warriors. They can use any weapon, but have -5 to their hit chance with them. They are however more effective with war hammers and mallets, dealing 50% more damage with those weapons and not having the hit chance penalty.

3) Effects on Armor Usage

Crafters can wear any kind of armor, but will suffer double any listed penalties.

4) Character Point Rate

Crafters are your master craftsmen. These might be your blacksmiths, armor smiths, fletchers, or even house builders. Crafters specialize in skills that allow them to craft.

The Crafter's character point rate is:

  • Mental x 0.01; with an additional +0.2 for every level in Item Combination past level 1 obtained (total of +0.6 bonus possible).
  • A crafter who gets all skills in the Item Combination skill chain at level 1 gets to roll a 1d% increased by Mental as a percentage for extra character points.
  • A crafter who gets all skills in the Item Combination skill chain at level 4 gets to roll  2d% increased by Mental as a percentage for extra character points.
  • A crafter who gets at least 1 level in every crafting skill gets their End of Session Bonus as extra character points.
  • A crafter's End of Session Bonus rate is your character point rate increased by 1/2 Strength. So if your character point rate is 1.5 and your Strength is 60, you would take 1.5 x 30 to get 45 extra character points at the end of the session. The GM can of course reward extra character points based on role playing.
